Entries for Girls to Join Indian Armed Forces

These are some entries for women: Army Medical Corps, Army Education Corps, INET, AFCAT, CAPF, ICG (AC), TA, NCC IAF, UES Executive Branches, Corps of Military Police, and Military Nursing Service. Few are Being described here.

A historical step was taken in 1992 to induct women in the Indian Army and to conduct their training by Officer’sTraining Academy (OTA). Approximately 2000 Lady Cadets have already been commissioned into the  Indian Armed Forces.

UPSC Entry/SSCW (NT)

In UPSC entry, women can join the Army only via Short Service Commission Women (Non-Technical)Entry Scheme.

  1. Eligibility: Any unmarried graduate of age 19-25 years is eligible to apply.
  2. Process: The Candidates have to qualify the Combined Defence Services Examination which is held twice a year in February and September. Candidates who are successful in the examination are shortlisted for SSB interviews to be held in May-July and November-December every year. Almost 12 or more women are selected every six months for training based on the merit list.
  3. Training: Training of 49 weeks starts every April and October at OTA Chennai.

Non-UPSC Entries

NCC Special Entry and JAG Entry, both are the Short Service Commission.

SSCW NCC (SPL) Entry Women:

  1. Eligibility: Any unmarried graduate of age 19-25 years having an NCC ‘C’ certificate is eligible to apply.
  2. Process: There is no need to attend any entrance exam for this entry except for a minimum of 50% in graduation with a valid NCC ‘C’ certificate with a minimum ‘B’ grade. Candidates are shortlisted for SSB interviews to be held in May-July and December-January every year through respective directorates. Every six months, 5 or more women are selected by the merit list to undergo training at OTA Chennai.
  3. Training: Training of 49 weeks starts every April and October at OTA Chennai.

SSCW Judge Advocate General (JAG):

  1. Eligibility: Any unmarried LLB graduate of age 21-27 years is eligible to apply.
  2. Process: There is no need to attend any entrance exam for this entry except for a minimum of 55% in LLB. Candidates are shortlisted for SSB interviews to be held in June-July and December-January every year through Directorate General Recruiting / AG Branch. Every six months, 4 or more women are selected based on the merit list to undergo training at OTA Chennai.
  3. Training: Training of 49 weeks starts every April and October at OTA Chennai.

SSCW (Tech): Short Service Commission Technical Entry

This is for Technically Graduate women. Women with an engineering degree can join the Army as Short Service Commission, officers.

  1. Eligibility: Any unmarried engineering graduate of age 20-27 years is eligible to apply.
  2. Process: There is no need to attend any entrance exam for this entry and minimum cut off varies as per the latest notification. Candidates are shortlisted for SSB Interview to be held in June-July and November-December every year. 20 or more women are selected every six months to undergo training based on the merit list.
  3. Training: Training of 49 weeks starts every April and October at OTA Chennai.
